Wyndham Championship: Aaron Rai wins first PGA Tour title after leader Max Greyserman falters late in match

England’s Aaron Rai won his first PGA Tour title by winning the Wyndham Championship by two strokes after leader Max Greyserman collapsed in the closing stages.

Rai, 29, trailed by four strokes halfway through the final nine holes in North Carolina, but he shot a 64 to finish the match at 18 under par and secure victory.

Greyserman appeared to be in a comfortable position when he hit his second shot for eagle on the par-four 13th hole.

But the 29-year-old American was left with a quadruple bogey on the 14th after hitting out of bounds.

A birdie on the next hole was followed by four putts on the par-3 16th hole, ending his hopes of winning the trophy.

He finished his tournament at Sedgefield Country Club on 16 under.

On the final day, most golfers played 36 holes after bad weather disrupted the previous days’ schedule.

Rai, who is 25th in the FedEx Cup standings, called his victory “truly a dream come true.”

He added: “I felt pretty calm. I knew the situation. I just did a good job of continuing to do what we do best.”

American JJ Spaun and Japanese Ryo Hisatsune finished in a tie for third place at 15 under.
