WWE Champion Cody Rhodes on the Post-WrestleMania Blues and the Task After Winning the Title

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has opened up about the “post-WrestleMania blues” after defeating Roman Reigns and concluding his story. On “The Pivot Podcast,” Rhodes was asked what else he needs to do besides defeating Reigns to cement himself on the Mount Rushmore of professional wrestling. He explained that he always prefers to have a task or goal in front of him to stay focused.

“There’s even a kind of post-WrestleMania blues psychology wisdom of what’s next? So I always need a job; what’s my specific job? And that’s one area where I look at Steve Austin and I look at John Cena who are the lead dogs and this is not me in my ego, I’ve got this (the championship), so I’m at the front of the pack right now, right? I’m the lead dog, as long as I’ve got this. I want to make sure that my numbers — and it’s not the most emotional goal or anything — but I want to make sure that my numbers and my stats match theirs or exceed theirs, because you can’t argue with that.”

After failing to capture the “Tribal Chief” at WrestleMania 39, Rhodes spent an entire year working his way back to earn another chance to dethrone Reigns. He eventually won the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row to earn a second chance. Thankfully, he was able to make his dream come true at WrestleMania 40, but it seems he’s looking for a new challenge to sink his teeth into.

Rhodes also mentioned that John Cena feels the same way about always wanting to be a driving force in the business, and he proves it every time he returns to competition or adds more gold to his name.
