WRUP: Sportsball | Massively Overpowered

WRUP: Sportsball | Massively Overpowered

Welcome back to What Are You Playing, the game where Eliot usually talks about something so weird that no one could possibly guess what it was, and then we all just talk about the video games we’re playing this weekend as if nothing weird had happened. It’s quite the mood. But hey, Eliot’s off, and I’m alone, so I’m just going to talk about Star Wars Galaxies for a few hours.

I’m just kidding. I’m just trying to see who gets really mad about the word sportsball. So tell us what MMOs you’re playing this weekend, and here’s the bonus question: Now that the Summer Olympics are over, what is your favorite Olympic sport?

Brianna Royce (@nbriannablog): I’m super addicted to it Guild Wars 2 Again, any free time I can spare on the weekend, I spend there.

I’m an indoor volleyball fanatic, followed by tennis. Volleyball is in my blood thanks to my dad (but not in my cards; I’m 5’10” lol). Everything else is fine too – like it’s some kind of requirement to watch at least gymnastics, ice skating, and beach volleyball if those sports are aired in an Olympic year, right? – but those are my favorites, the things I would watch every day. There are a few I don’t like because people fall over all the time (or fall off horses, ahem). Trampoline just makes me too nervous to watch it. My husband loves diving, but it stresses me out.

I will say that I tried to watch surfing this year, and wow, it didn’t work. Watching people paddle out for hours waiting for a decent wave wasn’t the right atmosphere. That’s a sport that works much better on repetitions of the good stuff.

Chris Neal (@wolfyeyesblog): I’m slowly moving more and more towards the technical side Elite: Dangerousso that will be my primary focus for the weekend again. I will also take another look at Lord of the Rings Online to play a new Warden and see what this Beyond the Shadow stuff is about. Other than that it’s more my usual daily tasks in Final Fantasy XIV and probably a return visit to Signpost.

One of my favorite Olympic sports is figure skating, I used to watch it with my mom, so it’s a fundamental part of my life, not to mention how incredibly beautiful the sport is in general.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvreblog): It’s been a hell of a week. I mean it’s been a week, and I’m in hell. Probably a few Final Fantasy XIVI think so.

I’ve never really cared for the Olympics and I don’t watch that many sports in general, so these things are related. That said, while I definitely think figure skating is highly competitive (yes, I totally agree with Chris on this, although I don’t share his mother’s opinion, of course), my preference for Olympic sports in general is something that doesn’t come up that often otherwise. How cool is it that gymnastics is an Olympic sport? It’s not like baseball or basketball or competitions that you see on TV all the time. People just love gymnastics and push themselves to the highest level just for this Olympic competition. I think that’s awesome.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypsterblog): While I’m at level 80 in World of WarcraftI still have a lot of War Within side quests to do. So I’m going to focus on that and also level up my lowbie Lore master in Lord of the Rings Online.

Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I hope to get some time in Prince of Persia lost crown as well as Once man. I tried playing it a few times but my game sessions were cut off and I couldn’t even get through the prologue/tutorial. I’m still logging in too HP Magic Awakens also, but knowing the end is so close, it’s really just a matter of doing, without any real meaning.

Bonus: I really enjoyed watching tennis, but I think my favorite is the track and field events. All of them. From sprints to long distances, they are so exciting to watch.

Tyler Edwards (blog): I’m going to play something that I’m not sure I can talk about, and the time I have left I’ll use to WowI got my Warlock to level 80, so now I can start the real game: leveling up alts.

Bonus question: I’m from Canada; I’ll be deported if I don’t say hockey. I also enjoy sports that rely on agility, like gymnastics and figure skating, mainly because I’m such a total klutz that I can’t imagine how anyone can be that coordinated.
