World News | 3rd Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo to celebrate cycling in the emirate

Abu Dhabi (UAE), July 27 (ANI/WAM): The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has announced that the third Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo will be held on November 16, 2024. The cycling course will consist of a 150km route starting in Abu Dhabi and ending in Al Ain.

The total prize pool for the third edition of the race is AED 2 million, making it one of the most prominent sporting events in the UAE and supporting Abu Dhabi’s efforts to host world-class cycling events. The race also highlights the importance of cycling and its role in improving the overall health of the population, thanks to the participation of hundreds of enthusiasts.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “The third edition of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo offers a special experience for cycling fans as it brings together both amateur and professional cyclists on a long course that runs through different areas in Abu Dhabi.”

Al Awani added that the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo has seen a large participation of diverse cyclists, both men and women, since its launch in 2022. The number of participants in the last edition in 2023 was 1,200, representing 75 nationalities living inside and outside the UAE.

Al Awani added: “The Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is not just a race, but a celebration of cycling and community unity. The ultimate goal is to encourage people to stay fit, follow a healthy lifestyle and improve the quality of life in society.”

Bike Abu Dhabi is an initiative of the government of Abu Dhabi. Its aim is to unite efforts to achieve the emirate’s long-term goals of strengthening its global position in cycling, as cycling is an activity that combines mobility, health, entertainment and sports.

The International Cycling Union named Abu Dhabi a ‘Cycling City’ in November 2021 in recognition of its long-term commitment to implementing strategies that encourage cycling as a healthy daily activity, a more sustainable mode of transport and an enjoyable competitive sport for both amateurs and professionals.
