World boxing chief urges national federations to save Olympic dream

Time is running out for national federations to get behind the World Boxing Championships and help get the sport back on the Olympic programme for the 2028 Games, said chairman Boris van der Vorst.

Federations can remain loyal to the International Boxing Association (IBA), whose recognition has been withdrawn by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and still join World Boxing, he said.

“It is not a competition between World Boxing and IBA. It is about keeping boxing at the Olympic Games,” Van der Vorst said on the sidelines of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) general assembly on Sunday.
