Will Glen Powell take over the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise?

Is Glen Powell getting ready to star in a new Tom Cruise franchise?

The actor recently addressed rumors that his TOP GUN: MAVERICK co-star picked him to take over the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE series.

Powell’s answer? “My mother would never let me do that.”

‘That’s the worst performance in town, everyone knows that. That’s a death trap!” he joked, referring to Cruise’s habit of performing his own death-defying stunts.

Powell met Cruise when the two starred in TOP GUN: MAVERICK, and the pair became close.

“Cruise gave me (this) advice,” Powell told CBS. “He said, ‘When things get loose, it’s going to be really loud,’” Powell recalled. “Nothing else has changed, but you decide how loud all that noise should be. You can turn it up or down, but that’s up to you. And I think that’s the most important thing I’ve realized now.

The TWISTERS star added, “It’s just louder than I expected, but it’s also completely controllable.”

As for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, it doesn’t appear Cruise has any plans to transition into the role of Ethan Hunt anytime soon.

The trailer for the eighth installment in the franchise, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING, dropped earlier this week and the film is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025.

“In the action-packed trailer, Cruise dives and investigates a wrecked submarine, flies and falls from a biplane and does a lot of running,” Variety reported. “Angela Bassett also appears to be back as CIA Director Erika Sloane, after first appearing in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT.”

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING premiered in 2023, much to the delight of fans and critics, as its release was postponed due to COVID-19.
