Who made the selection for the Olympic Games in Paris?

play

The US women’s soccer team had a rather disappointing performance at the Tokyo Olympics when they took home a bronze medal. The roster has been assembled for the team that is looking for its first Olympic gold since 2012.

Emma Hayes has only been head coach for a few weeks, but her first big test as leader of the U.S. national team comes with the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris less than a month away.

The big news on the roster was the absence of Alex Morgan, who had played for the national team in the past three Olympics. However, there are other veterans on the roster with plenty of Olympic experience, including Alyssa Naeher, Lindsey Horan and Crystal Dunn.

USWNT Olympic roster

There is a mix of seasoned and new Olympians on the roster Hayes has chosen. Ten players have previously competed in the Games, while eight are making their Olympic debut. The team will also have four replacements who will travel with the team and can be added to the roster if someone gets injured.

Who is the USWNT head coach?

US Soccer hired Hayes in November, but she didn’t coach her first game until June 1 in her job as Chelsea’s head coach. She’s an experienced coach, having recently led Chelsea to their fifth consecutive and seventh overall Super League title. Hayes also led Chelsea to the 2021 Champions League final, is a six-time WSL manager of the year and was FIFA’s coach of the year in 2021.

When US Soccer announced the hiring of Emma Hayes, it was immediately announced that she would become the highest-paid coach in women’s soccer.
