Zheng Haohao is a young and rising skateboarder from China who is all set to become the youngest Olympian for China and the youngest at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Zheng initially took up the sport purely for ‘fun’ after someone suggested it. Two years later, at the age of nine, she represented Guangdong at the 2021 National Games and finished 14e.

She started practicing at a club run by Chen Wanqin, the father of Chen Ye, an Asian Games champion. According to her former coach Wei Naizhang, Zheng was a quick learner and never gave up easily. Despite her young age, she was extremely focused on skateboarding and often worked on correcting and improving herself.

Zheng rose to prominence in 2022 when she won the women’s park skateboarding event at the Guangdong Provincial Games. She earned her qualification for the upcoming quadrennial event after qualifying series in Budapest and Shanghai. Zheng took a big risk by finishing with 72.6 points in the final round, well past the minimum qualifying cutoff of 67.34 points.

Zheng has the chance to set a major record and become the youngest Olympic champion. If she does, Zheng Haohao will break an 86-year-old record currently held by Denmark’s Inge Sorensen. Sorensen won gold in the 200m breaststroke when she was 12 years and 24 days old, in 1938.
