Who Can Be The Captain On Sri Lanka Tour? What Will The Team Be Like, Who Will Get Rest?

New Delhi. After a successful tour of Zimbabwe, the Indian cricket team will now play T20 and ODI series in Sri Lanka. Team India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir is all set for his/her first overseas tour. India will have to play 3 T20 matches and then the same number of ODI matches with Sri Lanka. Many players from the ICC T20 World Cup winning team were absent from the Zimbabwe tour and may be rested in this series as well. Hardik Pandya is likely to return as captain in the T20 series starting from July 27. The selectors will be able to announce the team for this tour today.

After winning the ICC T20 World Cup, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma retired from this format. At the same time, legendary batsman Virat Kohli will also not be playing international matches for India in this format. After the retirement of these two stalwarts of T20, the space left in the team will not be easy to fill. It is believed that Hardik Pandya will get a chance as captain. Talking about T20, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be out of the team against Sri Lanka due to retirement. The selectors may rest senior bowler Jasprit Bumrah and wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. This step may be taken to manage the workload. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be the openers while after that experienced Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dubey along with Rinku Singh will be the big names in batting. In Bumrah’s absence, Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep will be responsible for the bowling. Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan could be options as pacers. In spin, Ravi Bishnoi is expected to join the Sri Lanka tour along with Kuldeep Yadav.
