Whittington claims local bragging rights against Hammerwich 2nds

WHITTINGTON Cricket Club took local honours by winning their home game against Hammerwich 2nds.

After batting first, the hosts saw Safeer Ahmad top score with 39 before he was caught by Thomas Spears following an Adam Millard attack.

Spears was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3-16, while Whittington was eventually dismissed for 158.

The reply took Hammerwich to 94-4 before dismissing opening batsman Iftikar Ali for 30 minutes as he looked to lay the foundations for a strong innings.

Oliver Jennings lost his wicket at 111-5, leading to a minor collapse and the visitors falling to 114-8.

Whittington’s bowling attack line eventually finished the job by beating Hammerwich by 129 runs to secure a 29-run victory.
