White Sox show depth of their desperation with hilarious defensive blunder

The 2024 Chicago White Sox are one of the worst teams in baseball history. The South Siders were the first team mathematically eliminated from the playoffs in mid-August, and the only reason to keep an eye on them in September is to see if they can surpass the 1962 New York Mets for the fewest wins of the modern era. Chicago entered Tuesday night 20 wins behind the second-worst team in baseball, and somehow their season continues to grow more embarrassing.

Eloy Jimenez was once considered part of a White Sox core that could win an AL pennant. That team exploded in spectacular fashion, thanks largely to the impossibly cheap and lazy management of Jerry Reinsdorf, but Jimenez’s inability to stay on the field didn’t help matters. Chicago traded Jimenez before the deadline this season, and on Tuesday he came to bat with the bases loaded and two outs as a member of the Baltimore Orioles.

Jimenez hit a soft pop-up that should have ended the inning…until the White Sox started White Soxing. This is what one of the worst teams in sports history looks like.

“The White Sox just went all White Sox,” Baltimore announcer Kevin Brown said. That’s a perfect description for a team that will look at the standings tomorrow and see itself at 31-109.

Somehow, the most depressing element of the White Sox’ season hasn’t even happened yet. Due to MLB’s new tanking rules, the Sox can’t pick higher than No. 10 in the 2025 MLB Draft. It’s a devastating blow to a team in desperate need of young talent, especially in the batting order.

Jerry Reinsdorf has ruined two Chicago sports teams with his slumlord ownership. Chicago Sports will not truly know peace until it has different owners for the White Sox and the Bulls. For now, the Sox are giving us a new, amazing blunder every night. This season is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
