When Jon Jones warmed up by pursuing Robber for his first UFC title fight

Jon Jones chased down a mugger prior to his first-ever UFC title fight against Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC 128. Although Jones became the youngest UFC champion ever that night, he had chased down and detained a mugger earlier in the day.

“Bones” was meditating in a park in Patterson, New Jersey when he heard a woman screaming. He spotted a mugger and chased him before eventually apprehending him and recovering the woman’s stolen item.

Tweet from Jon Jones about chasing an arrested robber

Jon Jones, who recently confirmed his next UFC fight date against Stipe Miocicstill holds the record for the youngest UFC champion. Before his first title fight, he chased down a mugger and later described the incident on social media.

Jones wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “So while we were at the park today some crackhead smashed this old lady’s car window and ran off with her GPS right as we pulled up. Right away… Coach Wink is going after this guy. I was shocked and stood there for a moment.

Jones added that he ran after the robber, stopped him and also recovered the stolen item from the lady. ‘Bones’ revealed that it felt good for him to help someone in need.

He further joked that the robber was out of shape, writing: “It feels so good to help others. It gives me strength and energy… Coach Jackson is a hero! I caught him… Coach Jackson finished him off… #crackheadshavenocardio.”

This wasn’t the only time Jon Jones had stopped a robbery. In November 2020, Jones uploaded footage of another incident in his parking lot to social media. A robber attempted to steal something from his parking space before “Bones” chased him down with a shotgun.

Jones is one of the scariest fighters who ever lived. Him chasing someone with a shotgun is a scary proposition to say the least.

Jon Jones defeated Mauricio Rua in spectacular fashion

Jon Jones was only 23 years old when he fought Mauricio Rua for the light heavyweight title. ‘Shogun’ was already a legend in the sport and achieved great things in the UFC and K-1.

Jones, however, proceeded to absolutely destroy ‘Shogun’ at UFC 128, eventually earning a third-round TKO finish to become the light heavyweight champion. Aside from a disqualification loss to Matt Hamill, ‘Bones’ has never lost.

Although he has had his share of troubles with the law and other aspects outside of the UFC, there is no doubting his prowess inside the octagon. Jones is now the undisputed heavyweight champion.
