What Melton’s fitting nickname says about the new Warriors guard

What Melton’s fitting nickname says about the new Warriors guard originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Perhaps De’Anthony Melton’s potential impact on the Warriors this season is best summed up by the fitting nickname he was given early in his NBA career.

In an exclusive interview with Kerith Burke of NBC Sports Bay Area at Warriors Media Day, Melton explained the origin of his nickname “Mr. Do Something”.

“From (Bally Sports Southeast Grizzlies color commentator) Brevin Knight in Memphis, one of the announcers. From the time I first started playing, he said ‘he’s always doing something, call him ‘Mr. Do Something .” So he came up with, Honestly, I didn’t like it at first. I just thought it was like, ‘Go out and do something,’ like, ‘You don’t do anything.’ But as time went on, I started to like it more and more.”

Melton signed a one-year, $12.8 million contract with Golden State this season and figures to play a big role in coach Steve Kerr’s rotations this season.

The 26-year-old, similar to new teammate Gary Payton II, has built a reputation as a tough, do-it-all player who has an impact on both ends of the court.

And if Melton performs the way the Warriors expect him to, it won’t be long before Dub Nation becomes ‘Mr. Do Something’ embraces.
