What does Celtic need to progress to the Champions League?

According to an analysis by Opta, 16 points would almost certainly secure a place in the top eight and 10 points would be good for a place in the play-offs.

Celtic are therefore likely to be just four wins and a draw away from direct qualification for the knockout stages, or two wins and a draw away from qualifying for the play-offs.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have won their last two home games in the league but have not won an away Champions League match since the manager first took charge in 2017.

Borussia Dortmund play in Germany in two weeks’ time and will face a much tougher test, with games against RB Leipzig, Club Brugge and Young Boys in Glasgow and away games against Atalanta, Dinamo Zagreb and Aston Villa.

“Our next three games are tough but exciting,” Rodgers said. “We know it’s a long road.”
