What are we playing this weekend?

Happy Saturday, friends! It’s finally fall, isn’t it wonderful? The leaves are doing that cool visual glitch where they look beautiful for the first time. All nice and crisp and satisfying. Too bad it only lasts a week or two before they turn into mulch on the sidewalk. Reminds me of a Regina Spektor lyric: “Leaves are most beautiful when they’re almost dead.” And now what I write below will inevitably be a lie, because I’ll be spending my weekend listening to old Regina Spektor songs, because she’s simply the best.

But for now, let’s at least keep up the pretense that we’re not all lying with these posts every weekend. This is what we’re all (allegedly) clicking on this weekend!

I don’t play anything. Why would I? What have video games ever done for me? Pah. Don’t make me laugh. I will never play another video game as long as I live. Or until Monday.

This weekend it’s… a secret game that I’m not allowed to mention. I’ll tell you something about it in a few weeks. I’ll just say that I’m super excited to play The Game. It’s a real Edders special.

I’m probably going to skip games this weekend, but I might try PUNKCAKE Délicieux’s Ecstatic. It’s “a bullet hell with a spider mech that freezes time and shoots missiles out of its ass, versus drones synced to rave music.” There is such a thing as checking too many boxes, PUNKCAKE Délicieux.

Was about to grab his Swordmaster and use it to seal his all-important alliance with the Fremen, but some sneaky bastard played the “Voice” card and blocked the Swordmaster tile, setting off a chain of events that left him far behind, scrambling for melange while the big boys fought over Heighliner privileges. I guess.

James
He managed to slip away and hit the “start weekend” button a day early, so now he can do god knows what.

Next week I’m free again, as we’ll be in Malta visiting my wife’s father. Between the sun and the sea (it should really rain most of the time we’re there, damn it) will be my Steam Deck, because a holiday is nothing without more Black Myth: Wukong bosses to beat. I’ve also got Hollowbody, a delightful PS2-style survival horror adventure that Nic didn’t enjoy as much as he’d hoped, but I’m really enjoying based on the vibes. The demo was really good, and while I probably won’t have time to fully delve into the game until Wukong is finished, it’ll be ready and waiting on my Deck when the time comes.

This weekend I want to give Reka a try. In Reka you play as a witch and get to customize your own witch hut while exploring the forest and presumably brewing remedies for the locals. I like the style, especially now that fall is approaching. Also the house has chicken legs and can move. I’m a simple person and that’s enough to pique my interest.

Nick
I’m going to try Deathsprint 66. I haven’t looked at it that much yet, but it looks incredibly fun. I love death sports, which makes me feel weird because I have no interest in real sports. Racing? No. Human races with big lasers that turn you into slime? Gimeee

Deadlock still grabs me like a Bebop right after he hooks me into pulling off an Echo Stone-powered double-bomb-punch combo like the annoying little thing he is. I have a basic knowledge of all the heroes now and can play about 5 of them with confidence. My favorite is still Dynamo, though. With his black hole ultimate and his little get-me-out-of-trouble ball, he’s a cross between Hades from Smite and Puck from Dota—two of my all-time favorite MOBA heroes. I’m starting to reach the point where I’m successfully pulling off amazing plays that leave me shaking with adrenaline and joy. Either that, or not pulling off said amazing play, and shaking with rage and self-pity. Because MOBAs.

But you, dear reader, what are you going to play this weekend?
