Western Visayas repeats NCR to retain Palaro girls secondary volleyball title

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Western Visaya successfully defended its Palarong Pambansa high school girls volleyball title after repeating the National Capital Region by a 5-set duel, 25-15, 18-25, 27-29, 25-22, 15-12, on Monday at the University of San Carlos – Recoletos Gym (Basak Campus) here.

Dona Mae De Leon, in action for Western Visayas, again represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School, scored 15 points from 10 huge blocks and five attacks.

Bacolod Tay Tung coach Ian Macariola couldn’t help but show off his pride after leading his team to the championship, overcoming NCR, represented by FEU Diliman.

“I am very happy because it is rare (for us) to win two Palarong Pambansa titles in a row. This says a lot about our strong program.”

In the secondary boys class, NCR defeated Calabarzon 27-29, 25-19, 19-25, 28-26, 16-14.

Miguel Egger scored 32 points from 18 attacks, 13 blocks and one ace to lead NCR, represented by NU Nazareth School, past De La Salle Lipa.
