West Ham’s Nayef Aguerd rejects Bundesliga loan move

West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd has reportedly turned down a loan move to an unnamed Bundesliga club.

The Hammers, who recorded their first win of the season against Crystal Palace on Saturday, have had a busy summer with a number of new faces as they attempt to revitalise the squad for Julen Lopetegui.

The London Stadium club will be busy in the final days of the transfer window with both new and upcoming players.

The Hammers are keen to sign midfielder Carlos Soler from Paris Saint Germain before Friday’s deadline, but the focus is reportedly on raising funds before signing more players.

West Ham captain Kurt Zouma, who is considered one of the club’s highest earners, is moving to Saudi Pro League club Al-Orobah. Earlier this summer, a move to the United Arab Emirates fell through after he failed a medical.

Zouma’s departure will see wages fall. The Hammers are also said to be keen to continue with Aguerd, with The Guardian reporting that the Moroccan international has turned down a loan deal with an unnamed Bundesliga club.

The report suggests the deal would have been a loan with an option to buy, but the 28-year-old’s salary, reported to be around £90,000-a-week, makes a sale difficult.

Aguerd, who joined from French side Rennes for £28million two years ago, was not in the squad for the match against Palace and there is also believed to be interest from the Middle East.

West Ham have strengthened their defence this summer with the arrivals of Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo, but there is no guarantee they can let Aguerd go.

The Moroccan made 58 appearances for the club and was part of the team that won the Europa Conference League under David Moyes, but his days at the London stadium appear numbered.
