West Ham just caused a huge transfer problem for Aston Villa

West Ham United were hoping to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

Although it looked like the Hammers would land the talented Colombian, the deal fell through after the Hammers came to nothing.

Julen Lopetegui has opted to sign Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund and now appears happy with his attacking options.

Former Villa player Andy Gray claims the Londoners’ failed attempt to sign Duran has impacted Villa’s plans to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford.

“I heard a few rumours recently when I was back in the UK that Villa and (Unai) Emery were seriously thinking about enquiring about him – let’s put it that way,” Gray told BeIN Sports.

“I’m not sure where Villa stand with FFP – they sold Douglas Luiz for a lot of money and spent a lot of money. I don’t know if Jhon Duran’s proposed move to West Ham has softened that a bit now, but there was certainly talk that Villa would be interested in Toney.”

Ivan Toney looks set to leave Brentford this summer.

Toney, who has just one year left on his contract at Brentford, is set to leave the Bees this summer, but a lack of interest from Premier League clubs means the Saudi Pro League is the most likely destination for the forward.

However, despite Villa and Unai Emery being interested in the 28-year-old, the club’s failed attempt to sell Duran could mean Toney’s only two options are to stay at Brentford or accept a move to the Middle East.
