What caused the accident in Pakistan that left 26 dead

Officials said the bus carrying guests at a wedding plunged into a river in northern Pakistan on Tuesday, November 12, killing 26 people, including the bride and groom.

According to Pakistani media website Dawn, Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sher Khan said the bus was traveling from Astore to Chakwal in Punjab.

The bus was carrying 27 passengers, including the bride and groom at the time, and rescue teams were able to recover 16 bodies from the river.

The bride, initially rescued but seriously injured, was taken to the Regional Headquarters (RHQ) Hospital in Gilgit, where she unfortunately died from her injuries.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding when it was on Telchi Bridge at about 1pm, causing it to plunge into the river below.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, in a statement in X, expressed his “deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the accident.”

He also stressed the “need to accelerate search and rescue operations” for those yet to be found, as reported by Al Jazeera.

In other news, Tanzanian authorities have launched a manhunt for a motorist believed to be responsible for a crash that killed fourteen people.
