Water main break causes flooding in streets near Ashmont MBTA station in Dorchester – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) – A water main break in Dorchester Tuesday evening caused flooding in streets near the Ashmont MBTA station, forcing shuttle buses to replace T service to the area.

Crews were working to repair the water main, which caused a hole in the ground at Peabody Square. The flooding began around 5 p.m., with water gushing upwards due to high pressure.

Shuttle buses replaced MBTA service between Ashmont and JFK/UMass, according to an MBTA X release. Buses continued to operate the route until 10 p.m.

One woman said the floods severely hampered her commute.

“It’s a real setback because now I have to call everywhere to get a ride. We live far away in Randolph, Massachusetts, so it’s really hard for us to commute like this since my car broke down,” said Tricia Johnson.

Businesses in the area were left without running water while work was done to repair the water main.

“This is really epic and it’s so big. It’s like everywhere and it’s dangerous, so I mean, obviously we can’t cross and we’re just doing our best to stay safe,” Johnson said.
