India’s ace Virat Kohli put pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the spotlight as he took to the stage at Team India’s special celebrations at the Wankhede Stadium, where the T20 World Cup winners were presented with a cheque of INR 125 Cr by the BCCI.

The Indian contingent flew to Mumbai in the afternoon after being received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. The entire flotilla had arrived in Delhi early this morning from Barbados on a charter flight and arrived in Mumbai after the breakfast meeting with the Prime Minister.

The Indian team was then transported in an open bus parade from Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium, where they were greeted by thousands of fans cheering them on.

A podium was set up for them in the stadium and Virat Kohli was given the microphone to speak. After thanking the fans for their support, he spoke about Jasprit Bumrah and said that India was lucky to have a bowler like him.

Jasprit Bumrah won the Player of the Tournament for his 15 wickets at an economy of 4.50. He was the one who bowled two excellent overs in the final over when South Africa looked set to score 30 runs in the last 30 balls. He gave just 6 runs for one wicket in those two overs and the Proteas could not handle the pressure.

I’m sure everyone in this stadium also felt that – man, are we going to get away with it? What I want everyone to do is applaud a man who brought us back into the tournament time and time again. A big shoutout to Jasprit Bumrah. Jasprit Bumrah is a once in a generation bowler. We are lucky that he plays for us, Kohli told a packed Wankhede crowd who chanted ‘Boom Boom’ to salute the fast bowlerR.

During the event, host Gaurav Kapoor told Kohli that he is considering signing a petition to declare Jasprit Bumrah a national treasure. To which Kohli said that he is already ready for the petition.

I am thinking of signing a petition to declare Jasprit Bumrah a national treasure. Will you sign it??” he asked.

Kohli said: “I will sign it now.”
