A question has hung over the world of American politics for years: Just how good is Donald Trump at golf? The former president says he’s an ace, a claim supported by many of his cronies and associates. But others say he’s a chronic cheater, reportedly kicking opponents’ balls into bunkers and putting his own into better positions. Because he plays golf almost exclusively at his home resorts, the public rarely gets to see him play, which he did nearly one day in four during his presidency. But a rare look at his putting may finally provide some answers to the mystery.

Trump took time out of his 2024 campaign schedule to hang out with pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau, put on a microphone for the U.S. Open winner’s podcast, and played a charity round for the Wounded Warrior Project. On that day, Trump’s short game was, at the very least, rubbish:

Everyone has a bad day in a sport as finicky as golf. But Trump’s putting form suggests this might not be a one-time problem. The former president flicks his wrist in a nervous manner just as his putter strikes the ball. On the worst of these attempts, he clearly misses an extremely viable shot. If that day is any indication, his odd form causes him to miss left all the time. “It’s not that they’re bad,” he says after one of his many, many misses. Perhaps no one has had the heart to tell the former president he’s wrong.

At least he’s still having fun in his golf cart:
