Watch Colin Jost explain why he’s in Tahiti to cover Olympic surfing in this exclusive clip from ‘Olympic Highlights With Kevin Hart & Kenan Thompson’

By The Today Show anchors to Kelly Clarkson, NBC flew some of its favorite on-air talent to Paris to cover the 2024 Summer Olympics, which kicked off this past weekend. But one star who won’t be joining the rest in France is Colin Jost, who appeared in an exclusive clip from Peacock’s Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson why he was sent to Tahiti instead.

In the clip, obtained by DECIDER, Jost wears sunglasses and a button-down shirt as he tells Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson why he decided to cover the Olympic surfing competitions in Tahiti.

“That’s a good question. I like surfing,” he says against a tropical backdrop. “I don’t want to surf here where they do it, because it looks like a place where I could die. But I like surfing in general.”

The Saturday Night Live star has a pretty simple answer when Hart asks why the surfing competitions take place nearly 10,000 miles away from the rest of the events.

“Surfing in Paris is traditionally bad. It’s more of a river setup,” Jost says with a bit of a “duh” tone in his voice.

“French Polynesia has some of the best surfing in the world,” he continues. “So even though it’s very far away and very early in the morning — much earlier than I would like to live — we surf here. It’s some of the best waves in the world.”

Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson features the two comedians as they hilariously recap “the best and most unexpected moments from the Olympics,” according to a press release. The eight-episode series will feature in-studio competitions, conversations and interviews with other celebrity guests.

The show airs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through August 11 on Peacock at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. Watch the exclusive clip from today’s episode above.
