Watch a Great White Shark Check Out a Paddleboarding T-Rex

The slowness

If you spend enough time filming something, you’ll probably capture some strange things. Carlos Gauna, a man who you’ll definitely spend a lot of time filming the ocean, has seen his share of strange things, but it’s usually not as strange as what you see here.

Gauna, who runs a wildly popular and educational channel called The Malibu Artist, is a fan of the great white shark. So much so that he has spent countless hours flying his drone, mostly over the waters of Southern California, looking for them. He does it for the sake of science, though he is quick to ensure that anyone watching doesn’t mistake him for something he isn’t.

“I am NOT a marine biologist,” he writes in a disclaimer. “As with all YouTube content, I encourage independent verification of facts through official scientific and trusted sources. I will strive to provide citations for all information I discuss here, when possible. My goal is to promote photography and drones to create awareness for wildlife and the nature around us.”

Because he spends so much time filming, he has a huge amount of unused footage in the vault. Some of it is interesting, but maybe not quite interesting enough to use in some of his videos. In this new episode, he announces that he’s going to use some of that stuff for a monthly wrap-up, and he starts with something that, in my opinion at least, should have gotten top billing. It’s a guy in a T-Rex suit on a paddleboard riding around with a great white shark.

“I don’t think he was able to see the shark,” says Gauna. “It shows that you never know what you’re going to see when you film sharks.”
