Warriors plan to work with Klay Thompson on Sign and Trade

Unless there is a last-minute position switch, Klay Thompson will leave the Golden State Warriors this offseason. The Warriors are open to a sign-and-trade scenario with Thompson to get him to his favorite team

“Klay Thompson, I think it’s very clear that his days in Golden State are over,” Adrian Wojnarowski said. “But the Warriors want to deal him in a sign-and-trade situation. Maybe to teams that don’t have the max cap space to be able to get a bigger contract. And if the Warriors can get some assets back in that, they’re more then happy (to do that). And they’ll be on the phone tomorrow helping Klay Thompson do that.

The Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers have expressed interest in Thompson. Both the Mavericks and Lakers could potentially offer their entire non-taxpayer midlevel deal for around $12.8 million, but sign-and-trade scenarios could also materialize.

The Mavericks are also interested in re-signing Derrick Jones Jr. next to Thompson, which would almost certainly require a sign-and-trade to suit both.
