Vote for the Louisville Area High School Girls Athlete of the Year

The 2023-2024 Preps sports season produced some memorable performances. Here are the nominees for The Courier Journal Girls Athlete of the Year award.

The poll closes at 12 noon on Friday and the winner will be announced on July 15.

ZaKiyah Johnson averaged 18.9 points per game as she led Sacred Heart to its fourth consecutive KHSAA title. Johnson was named Gatorade Kentucky Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the third year in a row. She is also a member of Team USA’s Under-18 team.

Davidson player Ellie Hammond finished her senior year strong by winning her third consecutive singles title at the KHSAA state tennis championships.

Northwestern signee Anna Krebs was named Miss Field Hockey 2023 by the Kentucky High School Field Hockey Coaches Association. She scored four goals and had eight assists last season, leading the Rockets to a 16-11-2 record.

Charlotte Crush was named Most Outstanding Swimmer at regional competition and won the 100 butterfly (51.41 seconds) and 100 backstroke at the KHSAA state championship. In the morning prelims, she set a competition record in the 100 butterfly (51.33 seconds).

Senior pitcher Hallie Roberts was 23-7 with two saves, a 1.56 ERA and 310 strikeouts in 186 innings. Ranked fifth in the state in strikeouts and tied for fifth in wins. Named Seventh Region Player of the Year and first-team All-State. Signed with Lindsey Wilson College.
