Virginia man dies in Surf City drowning

SURF CITY, NC — A Virginia man died Monday after drowning in Surf City, authorities said.

The Surf City Fire Department responded to a report of a swimmer in distress near 1820 North Shore Drive at approximately 11:26 a.m.

Authorities identified the victim as Minh Ha Nguyen, 57, of Richmond.

When Ocean Rescue personnel arrived, they found bystanders treating a victim in the water. Authorities said the bystanders had already begun CPR on Nguyen.

Rescue personnel initiated a medical assessment and continued resuscitation.

Pender EMS and Fire and the Surf City Fire Department also provided advanced life support.
