Vigo Co. Education Foundation Hosts 32nd Annual Fore the Kids Golf Scramble

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Fore the Kids golf scramble has been a community staple for more than three decades.

It is being organized by the Vigo County Education Foundation to raise money for the Vigo County School Corporation. The foundation’s executive director, Jane Nichols, said the money will have a big impact.

“Everyone is raising money to provide the extras that complement and enrich the school curriculum,” Nichols said. “It supports classroom mini-grants, school-wide scholarships, field trips for education, funding for academic teams. These are so many opportunities for our students that (otherwise) wouldn’t be possible.”

She said that money will create new ways to win.

“Our students in Vigo County have so much potential and so much opportunity and we want to give them the best chance to succeed and enrich their lives by making their education more fulfilling, uplifting and enriching,” Nichols said.

According to Dr. Chris Himsel, director of the Vigo County School Corporation, these extras are essential to a good learning experience.

“To extend that learning and do more hands-on learning, do more field trips, do more after-school events that make learning more fun and give them a chance to use what they do in the regular school day,” Himsel said. “They’re essential to extending learning beyond the normal and typical school day.”

Himsel said he feels fortunate to be part of a community that cares so much about their school board.

“It’s rewarding to see a community come together and rally behind the mission of continually trying to be better, and we’re so grateful for that,” Himsel said.

According to officials, the fight raised just over $45,000.
