Victor Wembanyama says he would like to back up Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert during his second season with the Houston Spurs.

“I would say the best defensemen would be the biggest challenges, so of course Rudy, my man Rudy Gobert,” Wembanyama when asked who he would most like to dunk on by CBS Sports’ Ashley Nicole Moss (6:45 of the match). video below.) “I think Kawhi (Leonard) would be… because I respect all these guys on defense so much that going against them would be incredible.”

Wembanyama continued: “I would say the third would be Jonathan Isaac. He is, I think, a very, very underrated defender.”

When asked which former NBA players he would most like to try the move against, Wembanyama named Kobe Bryant and Wilt Chamberlain.

It makes sense that Wembanyama would want to beat Gobert in the post after the Minnesota Timberwolves star targeted the rookie in a loss to the Spurs on February 27.

Gobert and Wembanyama last came together as teammates while serving as the anchor of Team France’s defense en route to a silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Leonard, who was unable to play for the gold medal-winning Team USA due to problems with his surgically repaired knee, says he expects to be ready for the Los Angeles Clippers’ season opener, while Jonathan Issac will be back with the Orlando Magic after retiring in July had renegotiated and extended his contract.

That means all three should be available against Wembanyama this season, starting with Spurs’ back-to-back matches against the Timberwolves on November 2 and the Clippers on November 4.

Wembanyama will look to follow up his Rookie of the Year season with more highlight-reel dunks as he teams with veteran point guard Chris Paul in hopes of leading the Spurs back to the playoffs, starting with the regular season opener on the 24 October on the road against Luka Dončić and the Dallas Mavericks.
