Video: UFC Lightweight prospect Mike Davis shreds biceps, forced to withdraw from Drew Dober brawl before surgery

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Mike Davis is an exciting lightweight prospect.

“Beast Boy” has won his last four fights, stopping two opponents and dominating the other two. His only loss came via his debut on short notice against Gilbert Burns, and he has an impressive 82% finishing percentage overall. So why hasn’t Davis moved up the ladder or built any serious momentum?

It’s been mostly activity. Five fights in six years on the UFC roster is not an impressive number. Davis admitted this and wanted to fight more often, resulting in a more high-profile lightweight booking versus fellow action fighter Drew Dober at UFC Denver on July 13, 2024.

Unfortunately, that opportunity has disappeared. In the video above, Davis talks about how he tore his bicep workout while wrestling. It looks fairly innocuous as Davis tries to get to his feet, but the loud cracking sound is a clear indication that this is not the case.

“Journal entry: June 16, 2024,” Davis continued. “This is killing me man… I completely tore my biceps during my sparring rounds on Tuesday. June 11. Resulting in a 3.5 inch retraction in my biceps.

Yes, I need surgery. They have to reattach the tendon by drilling it back into the bone.”

It will likely be at least a few months before Davis is able to resume martial arts training. We hope he recovers quickly and that UFC can find a replacement opponent for Dober.
