USMNT midfielder Tanner Tessmann leaves Venice for Lyon

Lyon have completed the signing of USMNT midfielder Tanner Tessmann from Venezia.

The 22-year-old player signed a five-year contract until 2029.

The Athletics It was previously reported that Tessmann would undergo a medical with Lyon after the French club agreed a transfer fee of around €6 million (£5 million; $6.7 million) with Venezia.

Tessman had attracted interest from several clubs, including Fiorentina, Ipswich, Brighton and Feyenoord, but the route to the first team at Lyon convinced him.

Tessman moved from FC Dallas to Venezia in the summer of 2021.

In the 2023–24 season, he played a crucial role in Venezia’s promotion to Serie A, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 42 games, resulting in a successful play-off campaign.

Internationally, Tessman has two caps for the U.S. men’s national team, most recently in a friendly against Uzbekistan in September 2023. He made a strong impression at the Olympics, however, starting all four U.S. games at the Games.
