Gabby Thomas has gold in her sights.

The American is at the top of the list of finalists for the women’s 200m track and field at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Here’s a look at the full schedule and field after Monday’s semifinals.

Women’s 200m Final Schedule

  • McKenzie Long, USA
  • Jessika Gbai, Ivory Coast
  • Dina Asher-Smith, Great Britain
  • Daryll Neita, Great Britain
  • Brittany Brown, USA
  • Gabrielle Thomas, USA
  • Julien Alfred, Saint Lucia
  • Favor Ofili, Nigeria

If we take the semi-finals and the Olympic Games as a whole as an example, the showdown between Thomas and Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia will be one to watch in the final on Tuesday.

Thomas posted the best time of the semi-final with 21.86 seconds, easily winning her heat from second-placed Dina Asher-Smith (22.31 seconds). However, it was Alfred who won one of the other heats with a time of 21.98 seconds.

If Gabby Thomas ran 21.86 so easily in the 200m semi-final…what will she drop in the final?! 😳#Olympic Games in Paris

Thomas entered the Paris Olympics with a silver medal in the women’s 4x100m relay and bronze in the women’s 200m from the Tokyo Games on her resume. Yet it is Alfred who has also become a household name during the ongoing Games.

She won the gold medal in the women’s 100 meters in a strong field that also included Americans Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson, who won silver and bronze respectively.

It was a historic achievement as Alfred won the first Olympic medal for Saint Lucia in the history of the Games and presented himself to the world as a champion.

However, she will have to make up some time on Thomas if she wants to win gold again and complete the 100 and 200 meters.

The scary thing for the rest of the field is that Thomas didn’t even seem to break a sweat and put everything on cruise control as she completed her semi-final heat. She will surely be pushing the intensity and speed even further with a gold medal on the line.

If she succeeds, it will be her race to win.
