Can you keep pace with the fastest man in the world at the dinner table?

Diners were left speechless at a chic restaurant near Wigan after queuing next to none other than Usain Bolt.

The eight-time Olympic gold medalist, 38, devoured a £35 fish dinner at La Casa Restaurant & Bar in Astley to celebrate the birthday of a Premier League cult hero.

La Casa has welcomed sporting names such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Tommy Fury and it appears this will be the third time Bolt has returned to the eatery this year.

Bolt started with a £11.55 dish of fried calamari before getting his chops around a £23.50 sea bass, served with mussels in a white wine sauce.

Bolt was present with about twelve others to celebrate the 46th birthday of his compatriot Ricardo Gardner.

The restaurant stayed open two hours longer than usual for stunned fans.

Gardner made 251 Premier League appearances for Bolton Wanderers, serving the club between 1998 and 2012. In total, he made 397 appearances for them over 14 years.

At the time, he was the second-longest serving foreign player in Premier League history, beaten only by goalkeeper and teammate Jussi Jaaskelainen. Gardner also played for Harbor View in Jamaica and for Preston North End.

Despite it being his big day, Bolt was the center of attention and was pictured smiling next to staff in front of a floral, neon-lit wall display.

“It’s crazy, he’s a really ‘big’ guy,” restaurant manager Gianluca said.

One of the other managers, Pietro Garrafa, told the Manchester Evening News: ‘I only started a week ago but I know quite a few celebrities come to us because our food is very authentic.

“I didn’t take the reservation, but I was shocked to see him when he walked in.” Everyone asked for photos and he (Bolt) and Ricardo were nice, there was a family of fans who were also dining there and Ricardo took a photo and talked to them.

‘Bolt was very nice and we kept the restaurant open for them until midnight (instead of 10pm), we loved it.’

The restaurant also wrote: ‘We are happy to welcome the legendary Usain Bolt back to La Casa!

‘It’s always a pleasure to serve the fastest man in the world – where good food and good company come together.’
