USA vs WI Live Score, T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies choose to bowl against USA

USA vs West Indies, Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies cannot afford another misstep as they take on a tenacious US team in the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup at Bridgetown in Barbados, as they look to continue their quest for an unprecedented third place title.

After going unbeaten in the group stages, West Indies slumped to an eight-wicket loss to defending champions England in their opening match of the Super Eight, paying the price for knocking out as many as 51 dot balls and failing to rotate the battle.

The heavy defeat to England has not only pushed Ravman Powell and his men to the bottom of the group, but they now have a net run rate of -1,343 and need to win big to keep their home title hopes alive.

The US, on the other hand, has not won a single match since their victory over Pakistan earlier this month. But they gave a good account of themselves against India and almost shocked South Africa, falling just 18 runs behind the Proteas’ 194/4 against a quality bowling attack.

The tournament’s co-hosts showed that they are not just here to make up numbers and are not to be taken lightly. They have played an aggressive brand of cricket so far and are likely to continue to do so in the coming matches.

However, their weakness is their inexperienced bowling attack that sometimes lacks discipline and West Indies, who are blessed with big hitters like Nicholas Pooran, Andre Rusell and Powel, will be keen to take advantage of that.

Even though their backs are against the walls, West Indies coach Darren Sammy claimed their “spirit has not been dampened”.

Brandon King, who suffered a lateral pressure and had to retire injured against England, remains a doubtful starter for the hosts. If he doesn’t recover, Shimron Hetmyer could take King’s place in the playing XI.

The US has been without captain Monank Patel since their match against Pakistan.
