US Senate candidate makes fun of Lynn

LYNN – U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton attended the “Battle of the Badges,” a charity softball game at Fraser Field on Sunday between the Lynn Police Department and the Lynn Fire Department.

Team Police defeated Team Fire 12-5 (full match coverage on B1), with fans gathered around the ballpark.

Deaton lives in Swansea with campaign headquarters in Woburn. He said Lynn has a higher crime rate and immigration has had an impact, and “it is very important that we support local law enforcement (and) first responders.”

Deaton, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, said, “People who serve in uniform and serve for the greater good are close to my heart.”

Originally from Highland Park, Michigan, he says he believes some communities get more attention than others, but all communities in the Commonwealth are important to him.

“Every person in Lynn has the same vote as every other person. Whatever your income level is, whatever your background is,” Deaton said. “I think Lynn is as important as any other community in the state.”

He said that after serving in the Marine Corps, he worked as an attorney for more than 20 years, defending victims of mesothelioma and cancer.

“I have been representing the working class for 20 years and I plan to continue to do so when I become a senator,” Deaton said.
