By beating Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz became the first American since 2009 to reach the final of a men’s Grand Slam tournament.

On Sunday he hopes to end a long drought: no American has won a major final on these courts since 2003, when Andy Roddick won.

Fritz will face top-seeded Jannik Sinner, who easily broke through the competition to reach his second Grand Slam final of the year.

Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s final.

Location: Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York

Streaming: ESPN+, ESPN Deportes

Prize money: $3,600,000 (winner), $1,800,000 (second place)

Taylor Fritz came from 2-1 down to reach his first Grand Slam final.

In the final phase, the eleventh-seeded player managed to beat his opponent, who suddenly suffered from fatigue after the fourth set.

In the final, the 26-year-old American faces the toughest challenge in men’s tennis ever.

Jannik Sinner has won 33 of 35 matches on hardcourt this year, including his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and winning two ATP Maters 1000 hardcourt tournaments (Miami Open, Cincinnati Open).

The American public wanting to see a champion for the first time since 2003 will motivate Fritz, but it remains to be seen whether this will have much impact.

The top-seeded Italian is currently performing considerably better. In order for Fritz to stay in the game, he will have to be physically strong and not play defensively.

Fritz may be able to win a set, but Sinner should be able to win his second Grand Slam title of the year and continue his dominance on hard courts in 2024.
