US Open Qualifying: Britons Billy Harris and Lily Miyazaki Win First Round

Britain’s Billy Harris and Lily Miyazaki have advanced to the second qualifying round of the US Open.

Harris, who made his first major tournament main draw at Wimbledon in June, held off Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo to win 6-3 2-6 7-5.

Earlier, Miyazaki won 6-2 6-4 against Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic.

The 28-year-old won three qualifying matches in New York last year, making his debut at the main draw of a Grand Slam.

Oliver Crawford, Jan Choinski and Fran Jones will play later on Tuesday.

They will be looking to join Harris and Miyazaki in the second round, along with compatriots Heather Watson, Paul Jubb and Sonay Kartal, who all won on Monday.

Watson will face second-seeded Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Wednesday, while Jubb takes on Finland’s Otto Virtanen and Kartal takes on Switzerland’s Simona Waltert.
