US Open 2024 Results: Jannik Sinner Beats Christopher O’Connell to Reach Last 16

Top-seeded Jannik Sinner avoided the same fate as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz by overwhelmingly dragging himself into the fourth round of the US Open.

The Italian saw his nearest rivals – defending champion Djokovic and Spaniard Alcaraz – suffer surprise defeats at Flushing Meadows earlier this week.

Sinner had no problems against Christopher O’Connell and defeated the Australian 6-1 6-4 6-2 in less than two hours. With that he reached the second week in New York.

“Anything can happen in this sport. I try to stay on my side of the net and take it day by day,” Sinner said when asked about the early exits of Djokovic and Alcaraz.

“There have been a few surprises already, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens next. But I’m very happy to still be here.”

The 23-year-old will face American home team Tommy Paul, world number 14, or Canadian world number 143 Gabriel Diallo in the round of 16.
