US Open 2024: Karolina Muchova beats Jasmine Paolini to reach quarterfinals

Unseeded Karolina Muchova reached the quarterfinals of the US Open on Monday by beating fifth-seeded Jasmine Paolini.

Muchova, who reached the semi-finals in New York in 2023, recovered from a 3-1 deficit in the first set to beat the Italian 6-3 6-3.

Paolini, 28, has had a stellar 2024, reaching the finals of both the French Open and Wimbledon. But she struggled with her Czech opponent’s serve, with Muchova losing just five points on serve.

“I was a bit nervous from the start, so I tried to make my shots feel the ball,” said the 28-year-old. “Jasmine Paolini is an incredible player. I’m just really happy that it worked for me again here.”
