US Open 2024: Jack Draper reaches fourth round

Jack Draper reached the fourth round of the US Open for the second year in a row on Saturday in New York by beating Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

His Dutch opponent surprised the tennis world by knocking out Carlos Alcaraz in the second round on Friday, but he was no match for the Briton on Grandstand Court.

Draper was in top form at Flushing Meadows and quickly took control of the match by beating Van de Zandschulp at the first opportunity to take a 2-0 lead in the first set.

The British number 1 had to work hard against his opponent, but eventually managed to convert his dominance into a set lead with an ace, winning a fiercely fought and decisive game.

Van de Zandschulp then seemed to find a rhythm and gained more confidence in his hitting, but a double fault in the seventh game gave Draper the advantage he needed to move just one set away from victory.

Draper encountered little resistance from his opponent in the third and final set. Van de Zandschulp lost his composure and at one point hit no less than five double faults in a row.

The Briton will face world number 39 Tomas Machac in his next round after the Czech player reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time by beating Belgian David Goffin 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.

Machac has not yet lost a set in the tournament.
