Units are responding to a two-car crash and fire in Destin, one of which was flown to the hospital

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. – First responders are on the scene of a serious two-car crash in Destin Friday evening.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at the intersection of Emerald Coast Pkwy (Hwy 98) and Trista Terrace Ct.

Destin Fire Rescue reported the accident as a rollover vehicle. One vehicle appears to have caught fire. Several people were taken to the Fort Walton Beach emergency room as “trauma alert patients.” One person was flown to Sacred Heart Pensacola.

Currently, all westbound lanes are closed, according to OCSO.

Destin High School principal Dr. Dianne Kelley, released a statement after the accident:

“I wanted to share an update with you on the car accident in Destin last night that left one of our students hospitalized,” said Kelley. “I personally visited the student and his father at the hospital last night and promised to have his favorite food. waiting once he’s out of surgery. The crash, which involved multiple cars, also hospitalized students from the South Walton area. I was told that these students are being treated at hospitals in the Gulf Coast region. “This news has taken a toll on our school community, especially the students and staff, as false rumors quickly circulated online,” she added. “Our shark advisory team will be on campus on Monday to assist students or staff who may need additional support. I will personally coordinate support for students’ families as needed. I ask that you keep the affected families, as well as our Sharks and Seahawk community, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
