Trump Team Question Pete Hegseth’s Choice After Assault Allegations

Senior figures in Donald Trump’s transition team are questioning their choice of Pete Hegseth to lead the Defense Department after information emerged that police investigated a sexual assault allegation against Hegseth in 2017.

The exclusive report of the Washingtonpost detailed that a complaint had been shared with Trump’s team outlining a woman’s claim that Hegseth assaulted her at a hotel in Monterey, California, after a Republican conference. According to the Afterthe person who filed the lengthy complaint was a friend of the alleged victim, who later signed a non-disclosure agreement with Hegseth.

His lawyer said police found no evidence of wrongdoing, but Trump’s team was surprised by the detailed allegation. The claim did not result in criminal charges against Hegseth.

“There is a lot of frustration about this,” the person told the Post, who requested anonymity for fear of retaliation. “He was not properly vetted.” They also said the transition team fears more revelations against Hegseth may come to light.
