Tribute to the talented rugby player from Cork who ‘had charm and charisma far beyond his younger years’

The young man died on Monday after a long illness

Rest in peace, Seán Cremin.

Tributes were paid to a young Kanturk who died this week in Cork University Hospital after a long illness.

Seán Cremin, from Coolclough in Kanturk and Dromtariffe, passed away on Monday 1 July and is survived by his wife Caoimhe, parents Tim and Louise, brother Conor, grandmother Beth O’Shea and extended family.

Mr Cremin, a talented rugby player who represented Munster and Ireland at youth level, was remembered by Kanturk Rugby Club as a “dear friend”.

“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our dear friend Seanie Cremin, a current first-team player and former U18 international,” the club said in a Facebook post.

“Seanie will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The club sends its sincere condolences to Seanie’s wife Caoimhe, his parents Tim and Louise and brother Conor. May he rest in peace”

Tributes were also paid to Mr Cremin on RIP.ie.

“I will always remember his great smile and enthusiasm for fun when I was with the youth teams at Dromtarriffe, an all round great lad,” one poster said.

“We will remember him with his mischievous, endearing smile, he possessed charm and charisma far beyond his younger years and he will always have a place in our hearts and the hearts of our boys,” said another.

“Sean was taken far too soon but our memories of him will live on. His skill with the oval ball gave us some fantastic times. May he rest in peace,” said another.

The funeral will take place at Grace’s Funeral Home, Kanturk (P51 WDX8) on Thursday from 5pm to 8pm.

A requiem mass will be held at 12 noon in St John’s Church, Dromagh on Friday at 11.30am. A burial will take place afterwards in Dromagh New Cemetery.
