Tram in central Oslo derails and crashes into a store, injuring four people

A tram derailed in central Oslo and crashed into a phone and computer store on Tuesday, Norwegian police said, but only four people were slightly injured in the accident.

About 20 people were on the commuter train when it derailed at an intersection on Storgata, one of the Norwegian capital’s main arteries near Oslo Central Station.

Witness Mohnsin Munir told Norwegian media that he saw the tram approaching at high speed. The car was supposed to turn left, but derailed and went straight into the store.

According to the police, the tram driver is considered a suspect in the case. The driver was not identified.

Images from the scene show that most of the tram’s first carriage had crashed into the store. According to police and fire brigades, the accident caused extensive damage to the store.
