Train derails at New York’s Penn Station, blocking tracks and causing chaos for commuters

A train derailed and blocked the tracks south of Penn Station in New York City, causing massive delays in and out of the Big Apple Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Amtrak and NJ Transit riders traveling between New York and New Jersey faced delays and cancellations in both directions, the city’s emergency notification system tweeted at 3 p.m.

Travelers in the affected area should expect delays of at least 30 minutes to an hour, according to Amtrak’s website.

Emergency services were busy clearing the tracks at Penn Station on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials advised commuters to take alternative routes.
