Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar retires from Olympic Games

Even Tour de France slayer Tadej Pogačar gets tired sometimes.

“I will not be at the start of the Vuelta a Espana,” Vingegaard told Eurosport“I have other priorities this year, but I will definitely be there again in the future.

“I’m tired, I don’t think I’ve ever been this tired after a big tour,” Vingegaard continued. “Honestly, I’m exhausted. I need some rest now.”

The 27-year-old rider jumped out of his hospital bed after his fall in the Basque Country in April and immediately started training for the Tour de France.

“It was quite a journey,” Vingegaard said Eurosport this weekend.

“It was only three and a half months ago that I had the worst accident of my career, breaking almost every bone in the upper right side of my body and rupturing both lungs.”

Currently, there are no more races on Vingegaard’s schedule for 2024.

This year, Tour de France stars Pogačar and Vingegaard will not be at the start in Lisbon on August 17 in the Vuelta a España, but defending champion Sepp Kuss will.
