Tour de France 2024 Stage 1 Preview: TDF starts in Florence, Italy

The 2024 Tour de France is finally here as the first stage of the world’s toughest cycling race starts in Florence, Italy, for the first time in the race’s 111-year history.

The first phase of the tour kicks off on June 29 at 5:50 AM EST in the heart of one of the most famous cities in the world.

From there, the race will cross Italy over the next few days before spending more than two weeks in France, where cyclists will climb several mountain ranges, including the Pyrenees and the French Alps.

There are hundreds of cyclists and dozens of racing teams who will be starting on Saturday looking to cement their legacies with victory in the sport’s most important race. And that includes the two riders who have won the last four Tours between them, reigning back-to-back champion Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar, who won in 2020 and 2021.
