And as for pundit duties for Germany’s European Championship victory against Denmark, the Australian was unimpressed by VAR intervention during the round 16 tie.

Postecoglou said: “My question is that we can’t see the contact with the ball in (Joachim) Andersen’s cancelled goal, so how do we know it’s good? That’s my biggest problem.

“Michael Oliver doesn’t make that decision, so it’s not in his name. The technology is meant to be permanent.

“If I hear one person say that VAR is not judging a match, I explode. It’s not Michael Oliver – it’s the technology we’re criticising.

“If an offside is so marginal, I don’t understand why it is being looked at. If we accept that, we also accept other two-minute delays for all kinds of other situations.”
