Torrez-Dawejko promoted to co-feature » September 11, 2024

Junior lightweight prospect Andres “Savage” Cortes suffered an injury in training and was forced to withdraw from his ESPN-televised co-feature against undefeated Charly Suarez in the Jaime Munguia-Erik Bazinyan main event on Friday, September 20 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

The new co-feature is an eight-round heavyweight bout between Olympic silver medalist Richard Torrez Jr. (10-0, 10 KOs) and Philadelphia-born veteran Joey Dawejko (28-11-4, 16 KOs).

In the eight-round, televised opening bout, undefeated junior welterweight Emiliano Fernando Vargas (11-0, 9 KO’s) will take on surprising Irishman Larry Fryers (13-6-1, 5 KO’s) in a higher class.

Suarez (17-0, 9 KO’s), a world champion from San Isidro, Philippines, now takes on Jorge Castaneda (17-3, 13 KO’s) in a 10-rounder for the vacant WBO Intercontinental junior lightweight title on ESPN+’s streamed undercard.
