Tigers announcer Craig Monroe off air after allegations

Detroit Tigers analyst Craig Monroe is being investigated by the Charlotte County (Fla.) sheriff’s office after a woman alleged on social media last month that he sexually assaulted her, according to a report. The abuse began when he was a minor league player and she was a 12-year-old child.

The now 35-year-old woman alleges the abuse began when Monroe moved in with her family during his minor league days.

Monroe, who was paid on a free-agent contract by the game, has not appeared on a Tigers broadcast since June 9.

“Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers are aware of the allegations on social media and are taking them seriously,” the Tigers and Bally Sports Detroit said in a statement to the Detroit News. “As previously stated, Mr. Monroe has not appeared on the broadcast schedule and will remain so indefinitely. We will not be commenting further and any questions should be directed to Mr. Monroe.”
